As your Las Vegas newborn photographer, I love helping families create spaces that not only support daily life but also shine in photos. These tips build on Part 1, ensuring your home is functional, cozy, and photogenic. Remember, a prepared home means more time for those precious cuddles—and stunning portraits!

4. Stock Up on Essentials (& Not Just Baby Essentials)

You’re likely already thinking about things like diapers, wipes, bottles, etc.

But have you considered stocking up on regular household items like paper towels, toilet paper, dishwasher soap…?

My best tip would be to set these items up on Amazon Subscribe and Save so they’ll show up on your doorstep and you never have to worry about running out those first few months with your newborn!

Include your own tips on things to stock up on, your favorite website to buy in bulk or have things shipped. Bonus if these businesses are local to you! For Las Vegas families, I swear by Costco for bulk buys—grab those giant packs of paper products and cleaning supplies. Or try Smith’s Food and Drug for local delivery options that save you a trip in the heat.

From my sessions, I’ve heard from so many moms how running out of basics added unnecessary stress. One Paradise Valley client stocked up on everything from laundry detergent to snacks, and it freed her up to enjoy her baby’s first smiles without errands. Pro tip: Include postpartum recovery items like pads or soothing gels—essential for comfort during those early days.

Stocking up ensures your focus stays on your family, and it keeps your home running smoothly for any visitors, like your photographer popping in for a session.

5. Put Together a Baby Care Basket

A baby care basket, or sometimes called a “downstairs” basket is a lifesaver those first few weeks home with a new baby.

Oftentimes, you’re in one space with the baby for most of the day and find yourself “trapped” under a sleeping baby without the supplies you need!

A baby care basket can solve that for you. Basically, it’s a container you can keep in each room of the house that has all the essentials for baby so you’re not running around from room to room getting the things you need.

Usually, the baby care basket includes diapers, wipes, burp cloths, extra clothes, pacifiers, and anything else you might need for the baby frequently.

I also like to think about including things for mom like nipple cream, breast pads, chapstick, etc.

In addition to keeping you from running from room to room, a baby care basket will help you stay organized and keep your home clutter free.

My baby care basket , I called it “survival station” included a phone charger and snacks for myself. It was tucked neatly in the living room, keeping everything accessible during feedings—and it meant no cluttered counters in my photos!

For Las Vegas shoppers, pick up cute baskets from Target or organize with bins from The Container Store right here in town.

6. Prepare YOUR Wardrobe

Of course we’re thinking a lot about how to prepare for the baby, but don’t forget about yourself! I don’t know about you, but when I feel good nothing can stop me! And that starts with getting dressed in the morning, right?!

Preparing your wardrobe for the first 2-3 weeks postpartum is an important step in getting ready for the arrival of your new baby. This is something I hear from new moms a lot: “I wish I’d prioritized comfy clothes that made me feel put-together for photos and visitors.”

Comfort and functionality are key during this time! You’ll want to focus on loose-fitting, comfortable clothing that can accommodate changes in your body shape and allow for easy breastfeeding access if you plan to breastfeed.

For Las Vegas weather, opt for breathable fabrics to handle our warm climate. Shop local at Motherhood Maternity in the Fashion Show Mall or online favorites like Hatch Collection for stylish options.

A client from Green Valley regretted not prepping her wardrobe—she ended up in mismatched PJs for her first photos. Now, I always advise including neutral tones that photograph beautifully.

There you have it—the full 6 tips!
